The bow of a Deep V hull is formed into a sharp V designed to cut through rough waves and chop. Unlike a Mod V hull, the sharp V extends all the way to the stern of the boat with less flattening. The sharper the V, the better the boat can tackle waves and smooth the ride. The “deadrise” is the angle that measures how sharply the sides of the hull rise.
Deep V hulls are also designed to deflect spray down and away from the hull for a drier ride, thanks to wide reverse chines (or sharp downturned edges) where the hull bottom meets the sides.
